Greatness

Greatness.

Anybody who takes time to be at one with nature and creation becomes aware of what is frequently called the beating heart of nature. We can hear those who speak of communing with the creation or being at one with the earth.

There is an inner pulse, a silent beating heart, something still and quiet that can be felt and sensed. Some call this inner beating God, others use different words and names to attempt to describe this.  Lao Tzu speaks of this and because he does not know its name, he calls it Tao.

On trying to describe what it is he exactly means by Tao he says, "It could just as easily be called great.

In an attempt to make this easier to understand and grasp he goes on to say. "There are four things that are great. The First is the Tao, then the universe, humanity is also great and lastly, the earth."

If we can stay in touch with these four great things, then your life will be in harmony and a closeness with the whole of creation.

Whether the artist is about to embark on the painting of land or seascape or possibly take a block of wood and carve or turn it into something else, the wise artist takes time to be at one with the beating pulse of nature. Getting in touch with the complexity of nature in all its glory, that block of unturned wood becomes at one with the turner and aids him in its creation.

Time spent with the greatness of things is never time spent foolishly. It is from this interaction that Tao flows through your every muscle and fibre and you become part of the artwork, and it becomes at one with you.

This is what makes parting with a work of art more than just a giving or selling it is a handing over to another a part of one's inner being.
